Capital University invites applications for the Associate Director of Career Development, engaging primarily in career advising and employer relations initiatives. The Associate Director will also be a campus leader, collaboratively developing and promoting high impact practice experiences for student growth and development.


Primary roles and responsibilities:

Career Planning

  • Advise and coach traditional students, adult & graduate students, and alumni.
  • Assess students' needs, and advance students' career development.
  • Develop and facilitate programs and classroom presentations on a variety of career topics.
  • Create career-related educational materials, including web content.
  • Establish partnerships with academic and administrative departments to share and promote high-impact practices.

Recruitment

  • Assist students and alumni with résumés, cover letters, job search, and interviewing skills.
  • Connect students and alumni to internships and full-time positions.
  • Serve as point of contact for employers when recruiting Capital students.
  • Coordinate employer relations initiatives, manage existing relationships, and establish new relationships.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities (e.g., on and off-campus recruiting and job fairs, interview schedules).

Administrative

  • Assist with daily operation of Career Development office.
  • Train and supervise Peer Career Advisors, including summer training, weekly training, and one-on-one coaching.
  • Manage web-based job and resume posting system (Handshake).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required with commensurate experience; Master's degree in college student development, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience (including graduate assistantships) in career development involving demonstrated engagement in career advising and employer relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, advising, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Experience with career management system, Handshake preferred.
  • Ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Possess a positive attitude towards cultural differences. Willingness to gain knowledge of different cultural practices and world views and determine how those practices and views will factor in during work with students and employers.
  • A student-centered approach that includes authenticity, gratitude, generosity, and humor.

Starting salary range is $40,000 - $44,000.
