Capital University School of Education invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of August 2023. Applicants must have earned a Doctorate (ABD will be considered provided the degree is earned by the beginning of employment) in Education, Teaching and Learning, or similar fields with specialization in PK-12 Special Education. Experience teaching in a PK-12 special education setting is required. Applicants should: have at least three years of teaching experience in a PK-12 setting; be state or nationally licensed or license eligible in the field of special education. In addition, evidence of effective teaching; collaboration across various content areas; scholarly productivity; knowledge of current standards and familiarity with state and national accreditation processes in the area of special education; experience supervising teacher candidates; and advising teacher candidates is expected. Experience with technology and online teaching experience in educational settings is preferred. Experience with structured literacy instruction, science of reading, engagement with state or national special education organizations, knowledge of Ohio Dyslexia handbook and Ohio dyslexia laws, and Orton Gillingham training are preferred.


  • Teaching courses in our Intervention Specialist licensure program, teaching the special education course sequence (e.g. diagnostic teaching for students with mild to moderate disabilities, Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports).
  • Supervision and advising of teacher candidates majoring in special education.
  • Service to the School of Education, University and the profession of special education.
  • Scholarly activity (e.g. publications, presentations, grants) with faculty across college/departments, schools in the community, and the profession.
  • Exploration and development of new special education programs and endorsements.
