Capital University School of Education invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of August 2022. Candidates must have earned a Doctorate (ABD will be considered) in Education, Teaching and Learning, or similar fields with specialization in K-12 Social Studies Education. Experience teaching social studies in a K-12 setting is required. Experience with technology and online teaching in educational settings. Candidates should have at least three years of teaching experience in a K-12 setting; state or national educator licensed or license eligible in the field of social studies; evidence of effective teaching, collaborative service, and scholarly productivity; evidence of state and national accreditation in the area of social studies; experience supervising teacher candidates; and experience advising teacher candidates.


Tentative courses to be taught: EDUC-218 Social Studies for PK-5, EDUC 318-Social Studies: Integrated Learning Experiences, EDUC 355: Social Studies Pedagogy for Middle Childhood, EDUC 359: Social Studies Pedagogy for Adolescents to Young Adults, and EDUC 430: Student Teaching: Adolescent to Young Adult (Social Studies).


While teaching courses in elementary, middle childhood education and adolescents to young adult social studies content and supervising teacher candidates, the applicant will help teacher candidates exhibit content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, demonstrate and apply knowledge of diversity in learners, learning and assessment; demonstrate and implement knowledge of curriculum and general pedagogy to impact student learning, participate in collaboration, employ effective communication, and create an engaging educational environment, and evidence the professional dispositions, ethics, and responsibilities of a teacher.


Application Process: Interested candidates should submit 1) a current CV including list of references, 2) official copies of all academic transcripts, 3) examples of teaching effectiveness (such as student evaluations and/or a supervisor evaluations), 4) examples of recent scholarship and/or creative work, and 5) three letters of recommendation, and 6) a letter of interest outlining the applicant's education/teaching philosophy and commitment to diversity. The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
