The Family and Youth Law Center at Capital University Law School works within child welfare, adoption, and juvenile justice systems to support positive outcomes for children, youth, and families. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Law School, the Executive Director has oversight responsibility for all of the Center's projects, initiatives, staff, and financial matters, as well as direct project management responsibility for several key projects. The Executive Director is a member of the Law School's senior administrative team.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

  • Directs recruitment, hiring, and supervision of professional staff and contractors.
  • Oversees Center budgeting and fiscal operations.
  • Directs Center's development activities, including grant prospecting, and writing and fund-raising events and activities.
  • Participates in training and presentations on adoption/child welfare/juvenile justice law and policy topics.
  • Generally oversees development and implementation of Center projects, and is primarily responsible for management of specific initiatives.
  • Participates in collaborations with federal, state, and local agencies, committees, and stakeholder groups and organizations.
  • Acts as primary Center media resource and representative.
  • Participates in Law School and University initiatives, committees, projects, and presentations.
  • Leads the Center team in short-term and long range planning and goal setting.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of child welfare, adoption, juvenile law, family law and systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Proven development and fundraising skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Colleague and Synoptix.
  • Strong experience with online meeting platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Strong supervisory and team-building skills.
  • A sincere dedication to furthering the interests of children and families.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D. or equivalent) or Masters in Business Administration
  • Significant nonprofit leadership, grant prospecting and writing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8-10 years child welfare and/or juvenile law experience, with both practice and administrative experience strongly preferred.
  • Bar admission, preferably Ohio, strongly preferred
