Capital University is seeking a Desktop and A/V Technician at its downtown Law School location to troubleshoot and provide quality customer service in the area of audio-visual systems, lecture capture systems, desktop (PC) hardware/software, and remote access to students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include designing, managing, and building images for campus PCs using Active Directory, Group Policies, scripting languages & batch files to automate tasks. This position will utilize imaging technology solutions to develop and deploy standardize configurations and software upgrades.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

PC Support

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting devices including desktops, laptops, department copy-room printers and office VoIP telephones.
  • Installs and assists service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboard, mouse.
  • Load specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs onto faculty/staff/classroom computers, via imaging software.
  • Fixes major hardware problems and replaces defective or inadequate software packages.
  • Coordinate classroom equipment replacement/upgrades.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves Windows and Macintosh operating system and hardware/software issues.
  • Provides solutions using product knowledge, system utilities, operating environment, knowledgebase, and websites.
  • Recommends solutions, new technologies, and system solutions for business and academic units when requested.

End-user Support (Faculty, Staff, Students)

  • Communicates with departments to report, resolve software, hardware, and operations problems.
  • Places and responds to IT service request tickets from end users.
  • Train users on software and equipment usage.
  • Configure Wi-Fi network connectivity on student laptops.
  • Configure student printing on student laptops.
  • Support installation and use of exam-taking software, Examplify, on student laptops.
  • Provide IT support during midterm and final exams with Examplify software.
  • Work with various vendors on issues that require support escalation, as needed (exam software, printer, security cameras/software and AV vendors).

Audio/Video Specialist

  • Install, maintain, and support a variety of classroom AV equipment such as projectors, amplifiers, video cameras, laptops, microphones, speakers, desktops, document readers, cabling, and podiums.
  • Work with internal departments with requests for AV equipment setup or AV inquiries within the building.
  • Provide day, evening, and weekend support (when needed) to faculty, staff, and visitors for classroom AV equipment and needs.
  • Coordinate and work with external AV vendors on new AV installation and/or troubleshooting of pre-existing systems.

Other duties as assigned

  • Work with, assist and communicate with University IT Department network, systems, desktop administrators and technicians on issues, projects that affects the law school building IT infrastructure.
  • Assist law school IT helpdesk student workers, as needed, providing Tier 2 support in conjunction with the IT Helpdesk including troubleshooting PC hardware/software issues, password resets, Wi-Fi network connectivity issues, etc.
  • Disposes PC hardware and peripheral components such as CPU, monitors, printers, and disk drives on user's premises.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College in related area and/or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience is required.
  • Training or certification experiences in the following IT service management practices: ITIL, HDM certification, A+ certification, ACSP, or PMI.
  • Experience with SCCM, or similar imaging technologies preferred.
  • Experience working with and supporting multiple computer platforms, including integration with presentation technology such as external displays, video projectors, DVD, screens, and lecture capture systems.
  • Familiarity with IT helpdesk tracking software, to manage work requests and asset inventory.
  • Proficiency administering computer using Active Directory, Group Policies, WSUS preferred.
